In this post I will share the pattern of my first crochet project, the amigurumi elephant granny square. Maybe some of you would like to try to make it as well. I’ve made photos of the different phases, even though there are still some beginners-/beauty flaws in them. Because even I’m not perfect…

Requirements:

  • 4 colors of wool: grey, white and 2 other colors to combine them with, in my case lilac and purple.
  • crochet needle 2,5 or 3
  • stuffing
  • needle and a black thread for the eyes

The granny square:

  1. granny-square-patternCrochet 4 chain stitches and crochet them into a ring with a slipstitch.
  2. Crochet 3 chain stitches and 2 double crochets in the ring. Then crochet 3 chain stitches, *3 double crochets, 2 chain stitches*, repeat between * 2 times.
In total you’ll have made 11 double crochets in the ring, the 3 chain stitches serve as the first double crochet. Close the round with a slipstitch in the upper stitch of the 3 chain stitches.
  3. Crochet 3 chain stitches and 2 double crochets in the big open corner of the previous round. Then crochet 2 chain stitches and 3 double crochets in same corner. Crochet 1 chain stitch and crochet in the next corner another 3 double crochets, 2 chain stitches and 3 double crochets. Crochet 1 chain stitch and crochet in next the corner 3 double crochets, 2 chain stitches and 3 double crochets. Then again crochet 1 chain stitch and 3 double crochets, 2 chain stitches and finally 3 double crochets and 1 chain stitch in the last corner. Close the round with a slipstitch in the 3rd chain stitch of the begin chain stitches.
  4. granny squareCrochet 3 chain stitches and 2 double crochets in big hole in the middle of the previous round. Crochet 1 chain stitch and fill the corner again with 3 double crochets, 2 chain stitches and 3 double crochets. Next again 1 chain stitch, 3 double crochets in the middle, 1 chain stitch and fill the corner in the usual way. End the round again with a slipstitch.
  5. Keep going like this until you’ve made 12 rounds or until you’ve reached the size square you like.
